The President of Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport concluded the year 2016 on a today’s press conference.
“After the first three months of the last year, we were sure that 2016 would be better than the previous year. After several subsequent months we have set a goal to serve almost 4 million passengers. We did not know whether we would achieve that goal until the very last days of the year. To be honest, this result was truly a great surprise for us” - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.
In 2016 Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport served 4.010.864 passengers, which means an 8% growth in comparison to 2015 and, at the same time, 2016 is the first year in the history of Gdansk Airport to have exceeded the total number of 4 million served passengers. Only in December the airport handled 296.122 passengers, which is a 17% increase in comparison to December 2015.
Such a great number of served passengers was a result of the increasing number of domestic flights passengers as well as of introducing new routes and a higher frequency of the already existing international flights. This positive rate dynamics has been achieved thanks to the low cost as wells as the traditional carriers.
The most popular destinations of 2016 included London, Warsaw, Oslo, Stockholm, Munich, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Dortmund, Cracow and Turku.
With the passenger traffic exceeding the number of 4 million passengers in the whole year, Gdansk Airport has fixed its second position as a Polish regional airport.
“Polish market of airline transportation has been already so far developed that its figures should not only show the number of the served passengers but also the financial results which reflect the scale of our activity related to air traffic handling” - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.
„According to the preliminary financial data, the net profit obtained in 2016 was almost PLN 24 million, which is a very similar result to the last year’s result. However, we should remember that as an airport we do not only finance our own activity but also fulfil the financial liabilities regarding the greatest investment program of our history. The EBTIDA margin, our company's operating profitability rate increased by the amortization rate, is worth mentioning” - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport
2016 was another year when, apart from the increasing number of the served passengers and extending the airport facilities, Gdansk Airport has developed its net of connections one more time. Also in 2017 the net of direct flights from Gdansk will be improved by new connections with:
