Almost 3.7 million passengers at Gdansk in the first half of 2026

During the first six months of 2026, Gdansk Airport handled 3,694,606 passengers. This is 11 per cent more than in the same period of 2025. There were 31,754 flight operations, 14 per cent more than a year ago. Charter traffic increased by almost 16 per cent.“Air traffic figures show that passengers are not discouraged by the global situation and the crises we are facing. We have seen an 11 per cent increase in passengers served in the first half of the year, and I consider this to be a spectacular result. Over these two quarters, there were nearly 16 per cent more tourists in the charter sector who have already flown to destinations including Turkey and Egypt. However, the summer holidays will tell us the most about the whole year, but we are observing significant increases even now. “In June this year alone, Wizz Air carried 28 per cent more passengers in Gdansk than in June 2025, Ryanair carried almost 16 per cent more, and LOT carried over 26 per cent more,” said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.In the first six months of 2026, Gdansk Airport handled 282,798 passengers on charter flights, exactly 15.8 per cent more than in the corresponding period of 2025. The largest numbers of passengers travelled to Antalya in Turkey and to Marsa Alam and Hurghada in Egypt.Wizz Air held the largest market share in scheduled traffic during the first half of 2026. It operated 45.4 per cent of all flights from Gdansk, followed by Ryanair (36.6 per cent) and LOT Polish Airlines in the third place (5.1 per cent).The most popular destinations chosen by passengers flying from Gdansk in the first half of this year remained unchanged: London (242,149) and Oslo (217,333), with Copenhagen (201,926) in the third place.In the first half of the year, 5,568 tonnes of cargo were handled at the Airport. This represents an increase of 3.8 per cent compared with 2025.During the first two quarters of 2026, Gdansk Airport generated PLN 44.3 million in sales revenue and PLN 37 million in net profit.

3D scanners are now in operation in Gdansk

Gdansk Airport has introduced state-of-the-art scanners to screen passengers’ hand luggage. Thanks to these scanners, security checks should take less time, and travellers do not need to remove electronic devices, liquids, gels or aerosols from their suitcases and backpacks.The new devices are the latest generation of EDSCB C3 (Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage) scanners. Using computed tomography technology, 3D images are generated, meaning that hand luggage may contain laptops and other large electronic devices, as well as liquids, aerosols and gels in individual containers of up to 2 litres.“We are currently testing the effectiveness of the new scanners. The results so far are promising. We hope that this new technological solution will significantly speed up and simplify security checks, whilst improving the detection of threats. This has been the experience at other airports so far,” said Łukasz Kunowski, Security Director at Gdansk Airport.These new scanners produce an extremely accurate 3D image of the interior of a suitcase. Advanced algorithms automatically detect hazardous materials. Passengers do not need to waste time unpacking laptops, tablets or toiletries. For Airport Security staff, this means a significant reduction in the need for manual baggage searches. These scanners operate in conjunction with the cabin baggage handling system and the automatic tray return system. The new scanners replace the conventional X-ray devices previously in use.Gdansk Airport initially purchased two new scanners. They now intend to order a further nine units. Ultimately, there will be eleven new security screening lanes. There are also plans to purchase six Body Scanners that do not use ionising radiation. These scanners will enable the detection of dangerous objects concealed under clothing.“We hope that by spring 2027, all the new 3D scanners will be in operation at Gdansk Airport. This will significantly increase the capacity of security screening, making it more comfortable for passengers, simpler for our staff, and, above all, more effective in detecting threats and enhancing security. We want to lift the restrictions on the amount of liquids allowed through security checks much sooner, including at older-model scanners. However, before this can happen, we need time to implement the procedures and test the new solutions,” added Łukasz Kunowski.The new EDSCB C3 scanners were supplied to Gdansk Airport by a consortium of Dimark and Anglosec companies. The contract value was over 9 million PLN.

Ukraine Recovery Conference – URC 2026

On 25 June 2026, Gdansk Airport handled a total of 303 take-offs and landings. This is a record number for a single day. Some of these operations were linked to the International Ukraine Recovery Conference, which took place in Gdansk on 25–26 June. Most of the 7,500 participants arrived in Gdansk via Gdansk Airport.In Gdansk and at the Airport, we hosted nineteen top-level state delegations, including prime ministers and presidents, European Commission President - Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President - António Costa, and World Bank President - Ajay Banga.The first guests arrived at Gdansk Airport as early as Wednesday, 24 June. The most important delegations arrived on HEAD-status flights – that is, carrying heads of state – whilst others arrived on government aircraft of a lower status. There were also flights operated by military aircraft. Many conference participants travelled to the venue on scheduled flights, which were operated by larger aircraft than usual for the occasion.During this period, 50 aircraft landings took place in Gdansk solely in connection with the Conference. As a result, on Thursday, 25 June, this year’s record for the total number of operations handled in a single day was set, with as many as 303.A large number of staff were involved, including those from the Operations Department, the Maintenance Department and the Airport Security Service. The staff of the Airport’s VIP Lounge handled passengers from 45 scheduled flights and 52 private and government flights.A total of around 5,000 business representatives attended the two-day Conference in Gdansk dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine following the war damage. During the Conference, nearly 200 agreements and letters of intent were signed.
