4.5 million passengers at Gdansk Airport

More passengers, take-offs and landings. We are close to breaking the record. The financial results are very good considering the challenging circumstances.

During the three quarters of 2023, 4,511,835 passengers visited Gdansk Airport. This is 31.1 per cent more than in 2022 and 9.5 per cent more than in 2019, which was a record year for Gdansk Airport. At that time, there were 5.4 million passengers for the whole year.

"It can already be said today that this year we will break the passenger record of 2019. We don't know what the result will be, but probably around 5 million 700 thousand visitors.
Next year, we should exceed 6 million," said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

The most popular destinations chosen by passengers remained unchanged, with London in the first place (379,541 passengers), followed by Oslo (332,320) and Stockholm (275,185). In charter flights, the most popular destinations were Turkey (Antalya 142,625), followed by Greece and Egypt.

"Although the cost of life has increased, passengers are probably saving money on something else, rather than on air travel. This summer season, especially in holiday, charter flights, has been fantastic. And that makes us very happy," - Tomasz Kloskowski added.

From January until the end of September 2023, there were 37,249 flight operations at Gdansk Airport, 10.8 per cent more than in the comparable period last year.

During the nine months of 2023, Gdansk Airport generated a net profit of PLN 27,601,762. In the comparable period of 2022, the profit was at a similar level and amounted to PLN 27,957,956. We have a profit on sales in the three quarters of 2023 of PLN 39,399,709 (PLN 26,169,551 Jan-Nov in 2022).

"Since the start of the energy crisis, all costs have increased dramatically. For example, the e-icing agents we use on daily basis have recently become 100% more expensive. Therefore, the increase in passenger numbers does not translate directly into a big leap in the company's revenue. In the context of high costs, I consider the profit generated over the three quarters to be outstanding," emphasized President Kloskowski.

Gdansk Airport received and checked in 8,315 tonnes of cargo during the three quarters of 2023. There was 8.9 per cent more cargo and mail than in the same period of 2022.The big growths occurred especially in the last three months, with 1,288 tonnes of cargo handled only in August.
