From January to the end of September 2021 there were 6.4% fewer travellers at Gdansk Airport than in the same period of the previous, also pandemic year. There were 2.1% fewer take-offs and landings. On the other hand, we have recorded an increase of 36.6% in cargo transport.

In the 9 months of this year, Gdansk Airport handled 1,378,110 passengers. The best month was August, when there were 362,256 guests. The President of Gdansk Airport, Tomasz Kloskowski, hopes to exceed 2 million passengers served by the end of the year, but at the same time stresses that this is not certain.

"Today we are happy that between 300 and 400 thousand passengers travel each month. However, for our Airport in the current crisis, it is not the increasing number of passengers that is most important, but the financial situation," said the President of Lech Walesa Airport.

During the nine months of 2021 the Airport recorded a loss of PLN 6,800,000. And the loss from sales amounted to PLN 18,250,000.

"On the one hand it is a bad result but on the other hand I am glad that this loss is smaller than the one we suffered after six months of this year. At that time we were 21 million zlotys in the negative. The year 2021 is worse for us than the pandemic year 2020 in economic terms. Last year, we received PLN 20 million of aid from various shields. This year we have no such aid," said Tomasz Kloskowski.

"An uncertain pandemic autumn lies ahead. But if the governments of Poland, the European Union and non-European countries refrain from making any nervous movements about the pandemic, we should have the worst behind us. We will learn to live and fly in the “covidian” conditions. However, passengers need to know what will happen in a few months because they often plan their trips many months ahead". - added the President of Gdansk Airport.

For the three quarters of 2021, there were 19,825 takeoffs and landings at Gdansk Airport, 2.1% less than in the comparable period last year. Passengers this year flew from Gdansk mainly to London (89,488), Amsterdam (88,599) and Oslo (86,818).

The Airport recorded a large increase in non-scheduled connections, mainly charter ones. This year there were 190,452, by 195.3% more than during the 9 months of 2020. In charter traffic, the best results were on connections to Turkey (73,975 passengers), Greece (46,541) and Egypt (19,643).

A number of attractive new flights from Gdansk were launched in 2021. Wizz Air flew to Santorini and Crete in Greece, to Bulgarian Burgas, Croatian Split and Spanish Malaga. Ryanair launched connections to Zadar in Croatia, to the Greek islands of Santorini, Corfu and Crete, and to Danish Billund. Meanwhile, Polish Airlines have launched new flights to Lublin and to the Greek island of Kos.

In the autumn of 2021 there will be completely new flights to Valencia in Spain (Ryanair) and Narvik in the far north of Norway (Wizz Air), there will also be flights to Vienna and Cork (Ryanair), to Helsinki (Finnair) and to Bodo (Wizz Air) and Vaxjo (Ryanair).

Already today we have the announcements of attractive new routes in 2022. Ryanair have announced the start of flights to beautiful Venice. At the end of March 2022, the connection to Spanish Malaga (Wizz Air) will return. The summer will also see the return of flight offers to the Greek islands.

The results of the Gdansk Airport in cargo transport look positive. Within three quarters of this year we transported 6,643 thousand tons of goods and mail. This is an increase of 36.6% as compared to the same period in 2020.
