Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport

AN-26 with terrorists and 5-million euro on board landed at the Gdansk-Trójmiasto Airport.

The attackers blew up a radar and demanded a helicopter, but policemen from the Independent Anti-Terrorist Sub-Unit were faster.

The above was the scenario of the 'Exercise aimed at the Cooperation of the airport teams and external services' held on 23 August 2002. Exercise participants included:

  • The Airport Police Station at Gdansk-Rębiechowo,
  • Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdansk,
  • Municipal Police Headquarters in Gdansk,
  • Police Prevention Department in Gdansk,
  • Independent Anti-Terrorist Police Sub-Unit in Gdansk,
  • Border Control Unit of the Gdansk-Trójmiasto,
  • Airport Border Guard,
  • State Fire Brigade,
  • Air Ambulance Services,
  • Ambulance Services (Gdansk, Gdynia, Pruszcz Gdanski, Sopot),
  • Medicine of Disasters Department of the Medical University of Gdansk,
  • Company Fire Brigade of the Gdansk-Trójmiasto Airport,
  • Airport Security Guard,
  • ther airport and external services in keeping with the airport rescue plan (including EXIN and LOT Usługi Lotniskowe w Gdansku).
