Birthday gala

Celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the airport in Rebiechowo and the 10th anniversary of launching Port Lotniczy Gdansk company, combined with the naming of the Gdansk Airport after Lech Walesa, culminated in an official gala which took place on 14 May 2004 in the National Baltic Opera House in Gdansk.

During the official part of the evening, the airport’s patron received a commemorative certificate bearing the airport’s new name, handed to him by Krzysztof Kapis, the President of the Board of Civil Aviation. Pawel Adamowicz, the President of Gdansk, decorated Wlodzimierz Machczyński, the President of the Airport Management Board, with the Silver Cross of Merit.

Awards were also handed to children who had won the artistic competition “Airport through a Kindergartener’s Eyes".

The celebrations were followed by a performance delivered by Studio Buffo with Janusz Jozefowicz and Janusz Stoklosa, and rounded off with a birthday banquet in the Opera foyer.
