Centralwings extends its cooperation with Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport
A Polish budget airline Centralwings and the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport decided to extend the scope of cooperation between their companies. Centralwings will open another base in Gdansk.
In accordance with the letter of intent signed on 11 October, Gdansk will become a location of yet another operational base of Centralwings, after the Warsaw Okęcie and Krakow Balice airports. The airline would like to have three airplanes at the base already in spring next year. Extending the cooperation will bring benefits to the airport, the whole Pomerania region and the Centralwings airline. The newly opened base will employ personnel from Gdańsk and the region. Part of the carrier’s operations will also be transferred there.
‘This will bring us closer to the Gdańsk region. We want to be your airline. The base will make it easier for us to access new airports and destinations you want to fly to. In the future, we want the Lech Walesa Airport to be one of the key airfields in Poland for Centralwings to fly from. The new Centralwings base will make it possible for us to make a stronger presence in the whole region. This day means a step forward which will facilitate the development of our flight network, not only from the Tri-City but also from other Polish airports’ says the President of the Management Board of Centralwings, Waldemar Królikowski.
Signing the letter of intent opens the perspectives of further growth for the Gdańsk airport. ‘Opening an operational base for Centralwings is a very important event in the history of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport. This is already the second carrier making a decision to develop their operations in Gdańsk. This undoubtedly shows how large is the demand for airline flights generated by the Pomerania region. I am convinced that Centralwings airplanes, both on the routes already serviced by the airline and on the new ones, will enjoy huge popularity’, says the President of the Management Board of the Gdansk Airport, Włodzimierz Machczyński.
At the moment, Centralwings flies from Gdańsk to Dublin, Edinburgh, Shannon and Rome. At the end of October / beginning of November the new winter flight schedule will be introduced. Planes from and to Gdańsk will fly on the existing routes according to a new timetable.
