"We crossed another barrier and we set another milestone, because we managed to serve 5 million passengers in 2019. This is a great success of the Airport, its employees and cooperating companies, it is thanks to our travelers, but it is also a huge challenge. "The ending year was excellent. A record number of travelers, the best financial result in the history of the Airport, several new, attractive connections provided by our carriers. 2019 was also a breakthrough in terms of investment. The construction of the T2 passenger terminal pier has begun, we have also started the design of a new office district at the airport, i.e. Airport City Gdansk”, said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

"It is the courage to undertake bold projects that distinguishes Gdansk Airport and its owners (including local governments of Pomorskie Province, Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia). Thanks to it, a modern passenger terminal was built in Gdansk in 2012, which is now being extended for the second time. The commercial zone has been changed, which has caused the increase of the tenants’ and the Airport’s profits. The Gdansk Airport is an absolute trendsetter in Poland in erecting a business zone near the airport, i.e. the Airport City Gdansk office complex”, added Tomasz Kloskowski.

The Lufthansa Group was a partner of the "The 5 Millionth Passenger at Gdansk Airport" event. "Thanks to the Lufthansa Group, the passengers traveling from Gdansk can say "yes" to the whole world, using our extensive network of 10,775 weekly connections to 270 cities in 105 countries on four continents. People from Gdansk, thanks to Eurowings, can get to Dusseldorf, to Zurich thanks to SWISS, and to Frankfurt and Munich thanks to Lufthansa”, said Frank Wagner Country Manager Poland Lufthansa Group.

In 2004, when Lufthansa began to fly to Gdansk, Gdansk Airport used to have almost half a million passengers, and now, in 2019, there are already 5 million of them.

When will be another million? According to the President of Gdansk Airport, Tomasz Kloskowski, Gdansk Airport can handle 6 million passengers in 2021.
