Record-breaking traffic at Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport

Record-breaking levels of cargo and passenger traffic were recorded in the first half of 2003 at Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport. The number of passengers travelling on flights serviced by Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport during that period exceeded 160 thousand passengers and up 6 per cent on the analogous period in the previous year.

Cargo traffic increased by 20 per cent. Such an impressive performance is primarily attributable to the Frankfurt-Gdańsk connection, which noted an increase in passenger traffic by over 80 per cent during the first half of the year. Until the end of May this year, the connection was only serviced by one flight a day.

Since 1 June, the number of flights has been doubled (with a morning and afternoon flight). During the first half of the year, almost 19 thousand passengers travelled to and from Gdańsk using this connection. Domestic flights from Warsaw to Gdańsk also enjoyed a greater popularity.

The positive increase in passenger traffic on the insignificantly extended network of scheduled flights is with the result of better utilisation of passenger seats - the average load factor for flights to and from Gdańsk exceeded 60 per cent for domestic and almost 70 per cent for international traffic.

Cargo traffic at Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport in the first half of the year as compared to the first half of 2002 increased by as much as 20 per cent, to exceed 1200 tonnes (2200 tonnes of cargo was handled at Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport in the whole of 2002).
