Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport has signed the contract with DORACO Construction Corporation for the extension of the Passenger Terminal. As a part of this investment, a new pier will be built, expanding the existing T2 Terminal to the west. The construction is expected to take 26 months.

The contract was signed at the T2 Terminal. The contract has been signed by: Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport and Karol Zduńczyk, the President of DORACO and Radosław Preiss, a Board Member of DORACO. The ceremony was attended by Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the President of Gdansk.
"After the construction of the pier, Gdansk Airport will gain almost 16 thousand square meters of new space, thanks to which passengers will be able to travel in even more comfortable conditions. This is an absolute priority for us. Our passengers have recognized our airport as one of the best in the world, they placed us on 5th place in AirHelp 2019 global airport ranking, taking into account our punctuality, quality of service and commercial offer. This is a great distinction for which we thank you very much. But it is also a great commitment. That is why, despite the difficult situation on the construction and investment market, we decided to start and accomplish this important and ambitious task, which is the expansion of the Passenger Terminal" said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.
"Gdansk has been developing, and the Airport and DORACO along with it. When we started the construction of the T1 Terminal in 1996, we were a small Gdansk company involved in the execution of the first large investment for the airport in the consortium. In 2011, the Gdansk Airport was on 4th place in terms of the number of passengers served among other airports in Poland, and DORACO was erecting a modern T2 terminal in consortium. We are currently beginning the extension of the T2 Terminal, already independently as a general contractor, and Gdansk Airport is on 3rd place in terms of the number of passengers served in Poland and at the same time on 5th place among the best airports in the world. As Gdansk residents, we are proud that we are involved in this project that will significantly contribute to the development of our region and our investor. For DORACO it will be an important item in the portfolio of completed projects" said Karol Zduńczyk, the President of DORACO Construction Corporation.
After the extension of the Passenger Terminal, the new pier will serve the scheduled passengers who travel to non-Schengen countries, such as Ireland and the United Kingdom, as well as chartered flights passengers, e.g. to Turkey and Egypt. Currently, these travelers use the T1 Terminal from 1997. Part of the new pier will also be intended for passengers from the Schengen area. The ability to adapt exit points to the aircraft to current needs, by, respectively, increasing or reducing the Schengen and non-Schengen service areas, will be specific for the operation and management of the new facility. Thanks to the extended terminal area, the central security and passport control zone will be increased, as well as the luggage claim area and arrival luggage room (bagażownia przylotowa). Arrivals will be served on the ground floor of the extended part of the Terminal, and departures on the first floor. There will also be 2 bus exits. Furthermore, 4 external staircases were designed to provide access to passenger sleeves.
DORACO will build the pier with full equipment. Gdansk Airport will pay PLN 255 229 228.00 net for the execution of the project. The investment will be financed from bonds that PLG [Gdansk Airport] will issue in cooperation with Pekao S.A. bank and from their own resources. As a part of the investment, DORACO will reconstruct the internal road system and build a new maneuvering yard for airport buses. According to the agreement, the construction of the pier is to take 26 months and it should be completed in the third quarter of 2021. Then the required technical acceptance procedures will take place and after 1-2 months Gdansk Airport should obtain the permits for use.
The general contractor of the airport pier, Korporacja Budowlana DORACO [DORACO Construction Corporation] was the contractor of the T1 and T2 Terminals at the Gdansk Airport, as well as of AmberExpo Exhibition and Congress Center in Gdansk, the greatest one in this part of Europe. In Warsaw, it rebuilt the iconic Cedet department store (formerly SMYK) and built Centrum Marszałkowska (formerly Sezam). Currently, DORACO is building a Children and Youth Training Center together with the stadium in Szczecin and a new facility of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw.
