Approximately 5.4 million passengers were served and almost PLN 50 million of profit - this is what 2019 was, the best year ever for the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport. The Gdansk Airport has a record number of 88 air connections and is implementing two huge construction projects.
In December, the Gdansk Airport celebrated the visit of a 5 millionth passenger. Today it is known that throughout 2019 there was a total of 5.376.120 passengers arriving and departing from Gdansk. "We have more than reached our goal of exceeding 5 million passengers in this year. This is very important information for us that the passengers are increasingly willing to choose Gdansk as their destination and that the good economic situation and more attractive tourist offer of Pomerania have a direct influance on the increasing passenger traffic at our airport" - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport. In 2019, the aircrafts made a total of 48.882 take-off and landing operations from the Gdansk Airport, the highest number in the company's history.
The financial profits of Gdansk Airport are also following the numbers of passengers and air operations. They are record-breaking for 2019. The net profit was PLN 49.938.000, which is an increase of almost 540 percent compared to 2018. "Air traffic and statistics are very important for every airport, but it is also important to have good financial results. Thanks to very good financial results, our company can implement investments, including such innovative ones on the Polish market as Airport City Gdansk" - said Tomasz Kloskowski.
In 2019, the passengers gained new interesting connections made by new carriers. In the spring, flights from Gdansk to Zurich started by SWISS, and in the autumn to Dusseldorf with Eurowings. London was the most popular travel destination in 2019 from Gdansk Airport.
The network has 88 connections from Gdansk to 71 airports in 22 countries. Five new connections will appear in the spring and summer 2020 schedule: to Zadar in Croatia, Kalamata in Greece, Bari in Italy, Zaporizhia in Ukraine and Burgas in Bulgaria. The Norwegian airline will launch its low-cost connections to Copenhagen, Trondheim, Helsinki, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
In 2019, the Gdansk Airport broke a record in freight shipping. The previous year result was 6.887 tonnes.
