The airport grounds have been divided into 7 catchment areas, with the exception of catchments No. 1 and No. 6, which consist of green areas and will not be included in the expansion. Meanwhile, the storm drainage system for catchments No. 2 and No. 5 will be implemented in a subsequent stage of the expansion.

Gdańsk Airport – modernization of airside infrastructure

Currently, stormwater drainage facilities will be implemented for catchments No. 3, No. 4, and No. 7, receiving runoff from the runway, the taxiway with exit taxiways, the existing and planned terminals with aprons and roads, and from the aircraft de-icing stand.

Catchment No. 3 covers an area of F = 119.71 ha.

The calculated runoff from this area to the sewage system is Q = 3,286.1 dm³/s. The sewage system will be equipped with:

  • A tank for the biodegradation of aircraft de-icing fluids contained in the wastewater from the aircraft de-icing stand and in stormwater flowing from this stand during the winter period – tank capacity V = 599.4 m³;
  • A retention tank located before the outlet with a capacity of V = 4,274.1 m³, including a separate biodegradation tank with a capacity of V = 1,906.8 m³;
  • Stormwater treatment facilities: a settling tank for mineral suspended solids and a separator for removing petroleum hydrocarbons.
Catchment No. 4 covers an area of F = 55.4 ha.

The amount of stormwater flowing into the drainage system was determined at Q = 2,519.6 dm³/s. The drainage system will be equipped with:

  • A biodegradation tank with a capacity of V = 977.4 m³
  • A retention tank with a capacity of 162.9 m³;
  • Stormwater treatment facilities in the form of a settling tank and a petroleum substance separator.
Catchment No. 7 (concerning the road system, the new terminal, and parking lots) covers an area of 6.7 ha.

The amount of water flowing into the drainage system is Q = 1,195.1 + 824.6 = 2,019.7 dm³/s. The drainage system will be equipped with:

  • Part 7a: A retention tank with a capacity of V = 1,173.4 m³, preceded by a settling tank and a petroleum substance separator;
  • Part 7b: A retention tank with a capacity of V = 711.4 m³, preceded by a settling tank and a petroleum substance separator.
