More passengers and take-off and landing operations. Good financial situation of the company.

Gdansk Airport handled 2,632,964 passengers during the six months of 2023. This is as much as 42.3 per cent more than in the same period of 2022, and 6.9 per cent more than in the record-breaking year of 2019 for Gdansk Airport.

"After six months we have more than 2,600,000 passengers, which is almost 7 per cent more than in the record year 2019. We continue to maintain our goals that we will try to beat the 2019 record, i.e. to exceed the annual figure of 5.4 million passengers served.  The first half of the year shows that we are indeed going for the record. 7% more passengers were carried by a smaller number of planes, and that means better efficiency and better economic results for the airlines, and we are very interested in that," said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

There were 22,390 flight operations in Gdansk during the half-year 2023, 15.3 per cent more than in 2022 and 2.2 per cent less than in 2019.

The most popular destinations chosen by passengers flying from Gdansk were London (243,224), Oslo (202,702) and Stockholm (165,210).

The largest number of flights to and from Gdansk were operated by two airlines: Ryanair (40.9%) and Wizz Air (40.6%). A total of nine carriers flew to Gdansk.

"We are already in a situation of full recovery of the aviation market after the pandemic. However, we are in different and more difficult economic conditions than before the pandemic. Macroeconomic indicators are different, we have an energy crisis, which is also affected by the war in Ukraine, there is the spectre of recession in many countries. This holiday will show what the situation in the industry actually is. We depend on customers, their choices and their willingness to fly. I am a moderate optimist, I believe that the market will continue to develop, the number of passengers will grow in the next years, but it is not known at what rate," - said Tomasz Kloskowski.

After six months of 2023, Gdansk Airport has achieved a net profit of PLN 3,538,770 and a sales profit of PLN 12,866,042. President Kloskowski emphasizes that the results are positive, as they are on the plus side, however they have been generated in very difficult market conditions, with very high and increasing costs.

Gdansk Airport received and checked in 4,985 tonnes of cargo during two quarters of 2023. This was 4.1 per cent less cargo and mail than in the same period in 2022, yet 43.3 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2019.
