Almost 120 thousand passengers in October in Gdansk

Gdansk Airport has handled 117 733 travelers. This is a good result, despite the pandemic.

“The results for October are satisfactory, even though we had fewer passengers than in September or August. This was to be expected. On one hand, October is the off-season period and the number of connections decreases each year. On the other hand, the ever-increasing number of coronavirus cases in Poland and the growing number of restrictions for Poles in other countries are not conductive to traveling” – said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

The Gdansk Airport had the most passengers on Friday, 2nd October, there were 6 881 passengers in total. On that day, there were also the most air operations, as many as 105.
The most popular destinations are invariably: the United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway.

Even though October is not a typical month for holiday travels, Gdansk Airport has served nearly 6500 passengers flying with charter airlines to Turkey and Greece for vacation. The passengers chose flights from Gdansk to Antalya, Badrum and Rhodes.

The air freight market has been growing during the pandemic. In Gdansk in October, an 11% increase in transported loads was recorded compared to the same period of 2019. This was due to the launch of a new base and cargo flights operated by UPS last month.

On 25th October 2020 the winter flight schedule changed. The carriers declared that by the end of March they would implement almost 60 connections from Gdansk. However, due to the restrictions in force in many countries and the lower interest of passengers in traveling, the airlines suspended some of their connections until around mid-December.
