In 2023, Gdansk Airport welcomed 5,907,280 passengers, a whopping 29.1 per cent more than the year before, but what is more important is that this is 9.9 per cent more than in 2019, when the Port hit a previous record of 5.4 million passengers. The summer months were record-breaking, with the Port handling 658,504 visitors in July 2023 only, and 642,129 in August.

"Almost six million passengers is more than we had planned and expected. Our dream has come true. Passengers after the pandemic, despite the war, the energy and financial crisis, which translated into higher travel prices, still want to fly and continue to choose Gdansk Airport. This is a source of pride and a great commitment for us,” said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of  Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

The largest number of passengers flew in 2023 from Gdansk to London (509,216), Oslo (443,365), Stockholm (354,333), Warsaw (277,396) and Copenhagen (241,741). The same sequence was in 2022. The leader in scheduled passenger traffic in Gdansk in 2023 was Wizz Air, which took 42.68% of the market. Ryanair was the second with 39.17%. The remaining flights were operated by LOT (5.2%), Lufthansa (4.01%), KLM (3.01%), Norwegian (2.68%), SAS (2.63%), Eurowings (0.26%) and SWISS (0.36%).

In non-scheduled traffic, including charters, flights to Turkey (197,495) accounted for the highest number of passengers, with almost 200,000 passengers in 2023. This was followed by flights to Greece (85,382), Egypt (60,017), Bulgaria (21,039) and Spain (18,198).

Gdansk Airport generated a net profit of more than 45 million in 2023. This is almost twice as much as in 2022, when the profit was over 21 million, and only 6% less than in the record year 2019, when the profit was 48 million. In 2023, the Port recorded a profit on sales of almost 45 million, compared to a profit on sales of more than 28 million in 2022.

"We are pleased with the financial results for the last year, which I was very concerned about. I was afraid of galloping costs and high inflation. We managed to cover large expenses and still make a profit," said Tomasz Kloskowski.

In 2023, there were a total of 49,502 flight operations at Gdansk Airport, 12.5 per cent more than in the previous year and 1.3 per cent more than in the record-breaking year 2019.
In cargo and mail handling, Gdansk Airport recorded an increase of 12.7% in 2023. It managed to transport 11,483 tonnes of cargo. Since 2019, cargo has increased by 66.7%.

Plans for 2024

The year 2024 is the 50th anniversary of Gdansk Airport in its current location. It is also the 30th anniversary of the Port Lotniczy Gdansk company. On 5 April 2024, the Port is organizing a big Birthday Gala at AmberExpo to which people from the aviation industry from Poland and the world, our contractors and friends will be invited. Already on 27 January 2024, a quarter of a thousand seniors from the Tri-City and Pomerania will be entertained in the Passenger Terminal at a dancing carnival party. November's first private party at the Airport made a sensation with its participants. During the spring, further editions of sporting events will be held. On the night of 18 to 19 May, the fifth Skywayrun Gdansk Airport, a 5 km night run along the runway, will take place. Before that, on the night of 26-27 April, the third Duathlon will be held, i.e. a 5 km and 2.5 km run and 15 km bike ride, also along the airport runway.
