Gdansk Airport has received the LEED certificate at the GOLD level for the Alpha building. This confirms the high environmental standards of the new office building.
Alpha is a newly constructed building within Airport City Gdansk, a modern commercial investment at the Gdansk Airport. Alpha is the first of seven planned office and service buildings which are to create a modern business district at the airport. Airport City Gdansk is the first such commercial development in Poland.
"Having completed the construction process of Alpha, we obtained the occupancy permit at the end of February 2022. This permit officially confirms the proper execution of the building by the General Contractor, Hochtief Polska SA. Taking into account the professionalism and fantastic cooperation with the Contractor, we were aware that with such quality of the building, obtaining the occupancy permit would be a mere formality. The LEED GOLD certificate which we have just obtained confirms the highest standard of the building in terms of the technologies used, including but not limited to, water- and energy-saving technologies, as well as the optimization of the construction processes aimed at creating an environmentally friendly building. The ACG Alpha office building has officially joined the forefront of the most modern buildings on the Tricity office market," said Michał Dargacz, Director of Airport City Gdansk.
According to the decision of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Construction Supervision Inspector, Gdansk Airport, as the investor, received the occupancy permit for the office and service building including the access road and connections on 17th February 2022. The Inspector confirmed that the investment had been completed in full in accordance with the building permit issued on 29th March 2019 by the Pomeranian Governor.
Meanwhile, at the end of March 2022, we received news that the Alpha building had been awarded LEED GOLD certification. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a set of guidelines that form a rating system for buildings. It is rooted in the idea of green construction and aims to take large scale action to create and promote so-called "green buildings".
The LEED system primarily assesses how well a building performs in terms of energy efficiency. The LEED system primarily evaluates how buildings affect the environment. It takes into account such aspects of the project as the building's location, the plot, consumption of materials, electricity and water, indoor air quality and health aspects, innovativeness of the project and the impact of the selected architectural solutions on the environment. LEED-certified buildings reduce operating costs, improve efficiency, lower carbon dioxide emissions and create healthier workplaces. They are an important part of the counteraction against climate change.
Appropriate building materials are among the environmentally friendly solutions used in the Alpha office building. The building has a BMS control system allowing for reducing energy consumption. Energy-efficient LED lighting has been used in the building and outside. Air handling units with F7 filters and high heat recovery efficiency have been installed. Environmentally certified Energystar (low power consumption) and low water consumption devices have been fitted in the sanitary areas. On the plot where the office building stands, water retention is carried out through the use of filtration basins and retention tanks. In addition, rainwater will be recovered for watering the greenery. Around the building, light-coloured paving slabs, wooden elements, varied vegetation and a green roof have been used to reduce the heat island effect. There is bicycle infrastructure around and inside the building, including parking spaces close to the entrance. There are also parking spaces for electric cars and car-sharing. The building has a glazed façade and an optimal floor layout, which will ensure access to daylight and have a positive impact on the working comfort and well-being of users.
The Airport City Gdansk Alpha office building is an alternative to business facilities located in city centres. It is located at Gdansk Airport, in the direct vicinity of the passenger terminal. It is a proposal for companies that want to take advantage of the proximity of the airport and excellent communication with the entire Tricity and the region. From Gdansk Airport you can fly directly to almost 90 cities in more than 20 countries and this offer is constantly growing. Employees of the new office building will use the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway and buses travelling to Gdansk city centre, Gdansk Wrzeszcz, Gdansk Oliwa and also to Sopot.
The office building has an interesting and modern design. It has six floors and two underground levels. The total lease area is 8.5 thousand sqm. It offers 197 parking spaces. In Alpha, there will be offices, a catering and service zone and, eventually, also a sports and recreation zone in the immediate vicinity.
