Festival of Freedom and Solidarity

A great Festival of Freedom and Solidarity [Święto Wolności i Solidarności] in Gdansk. On the 4th of June it will be the 30th anniversary of the first, partially free elections to the Sejm and Senate in Poland. The celebrations will take place between 1st and 11th of June.

The first partially free elections in Poland took place on the 4th of June 1989. During these days we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of those events. Since that time, everything in Poland has changed. We think differently and we live differently, we build a civil society. We have built and we have been constantly developing the infrastructure.

At Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdansk, the logo of 89th anniversary celebrations has appeared in numerous places. You can see them, among others, on the tunnels connecting passenger terminal with the passenger sleeves. It is also visible on the wall of the connector between the T2 terminal and Pomorska Metropolitan Railway Station.

Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdansk has changed beyond recognition since 1989. Thirty years ago, the airport greeted and said goodbye to its passengers in a small, one-storey building and today we serve about 5 million passengers per year in both terminals, whereas the T2 terminal provides the passengers with very comfortable service. Around the airport the city and its communication is developing. However, we keep doing our best. Soon, we will start working on our two large investments. We will extend and enlarge the T2 passenger terminal and a large Office and Business Centre will be erected around the Airport.

Today, Gdansk Lech Wałęsa Airport is a part of the national, European and worldwide transport system. As the third largest airport in Poland, it is a spare airport for Warsaw. It would have not been possible without political, economic and social changes that were initiated by the elections in Poland on the 4th June 1989.

We invite you to come to Gdansk and take part in the celebrations of Freedom and Solidarity Festival!
