Gdansk Airport joins the ranks of Silent Airports

19.11.2024 | 09:00

In the interest of passenger comfort, we plan to switch off most of the announcements emitted from the loudspeakers in the passenger terminal in January 2025. We recommend that you follow the flight information shown on the boards and screens.

“We are introducing an announcement-free airport to give our passengers comfort and peace of mind before they travel, so they don’t have to listen to lots of announcements that are not relevant to their flights. This will reduce noise in the terminal and give you the opportunity to focus on relaxing or working. We want to make travelling a more relaxing experience for passengers. We believe that this will also be helpful for people who are very badly affected by noise,” said Tomasz Kloskowski, CEO of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.

The final calls and calls for late passengers will no longer be broadcast from loudspeakers. All information about the opening of check-in or check-in and gate numbers will be displayed only on screens, as it is now. There, passengers can read about the start of boarding, i.e. the boarding of passengers, and about the last call.

Only emergency and safety messages will be broadcast in the terminal.

Gdansk Airport encourages passengers to pay attention to the information displayed on the monitors available along the entire route, from the security checkpoints to the gates, and to pay close attention to the time when boarding ends. Passengers enjoying the catering and shopping offer must, on their own and at their own risk, monitor the check-in status presented on the monitors.

Silent Airport, or Gdansk’s airport without announcements, will start operating in the second half of January 2025. The exact date will be posted.

The Silent Airport concept has already been implemented at airports for several years. In Poland, the silent airport is the Fryderyk Chopin Airport in Warsaw. In Europe, these include Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands, El Prat in Barcelona, London City and Bristol in the UK, Marco Polo in Venice and Helsinki in Finland. Outside Europe, quiet airports are in Cape Town in South Africa, Delhi in India, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Cancun in Mexico and Changi in Singapore.
