Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport Meets Security Standards

01.12.2003 | 00:00

Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport is one of three international airports in Poland which meet security standards stipulated in ICAO regulations.

On 1 December 2003 in Warsaw the Airport was officially granted a certificate valid for one year. The obligation for public utility airports to obtain certificates was imposed by the ICAO and the Aviation Law act dated 3 July 2002. The primary objective of airport certification is to clearly determine whether the airport administrator is capable of utilising the airport in a secure, efficient and cost-effective manner, which is evidenced by appropriate technical facilities and procedures related to passenger and aircraft servicing.

The lack of the certificate obligatory for all European airports servicing international traffic can eventuate in air carriers refusing to land their aircraft. The certification audit is conducted by a group of auditors from the Civil Aviation Board who are duly authorised by the ICAO. Based on a report on their work, the Head of the Civil Aviation Board issues a resolution on granting or withholding the certificate.

Apart from Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport, the airports in Katowice and Warsaw have been granted the certificates so far. Information on airport certification will be published in the AIP Poland. In Gdańsk-Trójmiasto Airport the certification audit took place on 21 - 24 October 2003.
