The international passenger flights from Poland resumed on 17th June, after more than a 3-month break. The first Wizz Air aircrafts has departed from and arrived in Gdansk. To Scandinavia, Germany and Finland for a start.
The first Wizz Air aircraft departed from Gdansk base on 17th June at 6.10 and arrived in Stavanger, Norway. The next flights destinations were Bergen, Dortmund, Turku and Alesund. The first scheduled international flight arrived in Gdansk from Bergen at 10.25.
“The return of the international, and earlier, the domestic flights is like getting a breathe back for the Gdansk Airport. It’s the beginning of returning to normal life. We will return to it but we just don’t know how long it will take” - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.
Unfortunately, despite the return of international flights, the connections to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Sweden and Portugal are suspended by the Polish government until 30th June. Apart from Wizz Air other airlines have announced that their flights will resume in June or starting from July. LOT Polish Airlines resumed domestic flights on 1st June. The LOT aircrafts fly from Gdansk to Warsaw and Cracow.
