Good start of the year at Gdansk airport. Almost 630 thousand passengers have visited us.

More travelers, takeoffs, landings, cargo and better financial results were recorded by Gdansk Airport in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the first quarter of last year.

From the beginning of January till the end of March 629,745 passengers arrived and departed to Gdansk. This is almost 500% more than in the comparable period last year. In record-breaking 2019, we served more than one million people in the first three months.

Our passengers flew most frequently in the last three months to London (61,949), Oslo (42,773), Stockholm (34,811), Amsterdam (34,096), Warsaw (28,573) and Copenhagen (26,972).

Charter traffic recorded an increase of almost 164% compared to the first quarter of 2021. Tourists (15,958) flew mainly to Hurghada (4,699) and Marsa Alam (4,851) in Egypt.

The airline made 7,691 flight movements year-to-date (first quarter of 2022), an increase of 132% compared to the same time in 2021.

"The first quarter results show that passengers have returned to flying after the coronavirus pandemic. This makes me very pleased. Especially the increases achieved by our partners, i.e. the airlines. It is worth mentioning that Ryanair for the first time in the history of Gdansk Airport overtook Wizz Air in the number of passengers serviced. The second airline with a huge success is KLM, which is breaking records and serves 12% more passengers than before the pandemic' - said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of Lech Wałęsa Gdansk Airport.

Successively, the amount of goods and postal parcels transported by air is still increasing in Gdansk. From January to the end of March 2022 we recorded 2,424 tons of cargo. It is almost 17% more than in 2021.

During the three months of this year, Gdansk Airport has earned a net profit of PLN 4,736,754.00. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2021, we had a loss of PLN -12,037,239.00. Wen generated profit from sales in the first quarter of 2022 at the level of PLN 2,855,120.00 (PLN -15,040,792 I-III 2021).

"After two years of continuous losses, we have eventually achieved a profit on both sales and net profit. This means that we are finally beginning to achieve economic stability, which is extremely important for the maintenance of our Company, its investment processes, as well as for the credibility towards banks which finance our undertakings," emphasized Tomasz Kloskowski.

The Head of the Gdansk Airport estimates that the process of rebuilding the aviation market has begun, which in his opinion will take two years. He mentions among the threats the war in Ukraine and the unpredictability of Russia's actions.

The network of flights from Gdansk in the summer season looks very positive. We have 88 connections, to 71 airports, to 22 countries, including 5 domestic connections, carried out by 10 carriers.
