Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport

To Cologne/Bonn

Soon we will be able to fly low-cost to Cologne and Bonn. The German budget carrier Germanwings has decided to launch a new air connection between the cities next spring.

Press release

Germanwings aircraft will first take off from Gdańsk on 26 March, to service flights to Bonn and Cologne three times a week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The planes will arrive in Gdańsk at 11:10 (Tue. Thu.) and 12:20 (Sat.) and leave for Germany at 11:40 (Tue. Thu.) and 12:55 (Sat.).

“We will be happy to host a fourth low-cost carrier - and another representative of the Lufthansa Group - at our airport," says Włodzimierz Machczyński, President of the Management Board of Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport. “Decisions to launch new air connections with Gdańsk, which different airlines make almost every day now, confirm the fact that our region is considered an attractive destination for tourist and business traffic."

The new route to Bonn and Cologne will offer improved access to the European and global network of budget flights for passengers travelling from Gdańsk to different destinations in Europe. From its airport based near Cologne, Germanwings airlines themselves service over 40 routes to major transfer airports in European countries.
The route network of the German carrier is serviced by Airbus 319 and 320 aircraft, the main difference between them being the number of passenger seats. We can expect to see the same type of aircraft in the skies over Gdańsk.

“We find the connection to Cologne and Bonn an opportunity to increase air and passenger traffic, and consequently to defend our position as the most important airport in northern Poland," says Włodzimierz Machczyński. “Decisions made by different airlines to launch new connections with Gdańsk in the next six months confirm that the decision we made earlier this year concerning the extension of the passenger terminal was timely. Due to the fast expansion of the terminal we should be able to guarantee global quality of services for the rapidly growing number of passengers arriving at and departing from our airport.
