We are in possession of the latest Surface Movement Guidance & Control System

This system indicates the positions of aircraft and vehicles moving on the manoeuvring area on the basis of indications from transponders and induction loops.

Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport has been implementing operational and technological solutions for years to increase the safety of flight operations and the Airport's capacity. The new system provides Airport controllers with full situational awareness for the entire manoeuvring area, even in extremely bad weather conditions. A-SMGCS class systems are among some of the most demanding and technologically complex solutions operating at airports and are subject to stringent international and national regulatory requirements. Until now, only few and the largest airports could afford them.

"Thanks to the digital data exchange made possible by A-SMGCS, we have reduced radio correspondence, expanding the scope of non-coordination work. The precise positioning of traffic throughout the Airport, supplemented by an accurate description of all active facilities, is an indispensable source of information for air traffic controllers. State-of-the-art systems dedicated to airport control are now being installed in the Gdansk Airport tower," - said Bartosz Supernat, the Head of Control Department at Gdansk Airport.

"We are proud to announce obtaining the approval of Poland's first Advanced Surface Movement Guidance & Control System (A-SMGCS) for operational use from the Civil Aviation Authority. Every new technical solution modernizes and improves the operation of Gdansk Airport. We are very keen on such a development. It increases work safety, but above all, the safety of flight operations, which is most important for our passengers,” said Jarosław Trzoska, the Head of Operations Department at Gdansk Airport.

The A-SMGCS system has been entirely made by a Polish airport systems manufacturer, AP-TECH company. The implementation of such a significant innovation was possible thanks to close cooperation between Gdansk Airport, AP-TECH and the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. This cooperation has resulted in a solution perfectly tailored to the needs of the Port and Airport controllers.

"We would like to thank the entire Airport team and controllers for their cooperation and commitment. Their openness to innovation and forward-looking view of the development of the Airport's infrastructure has achieved something that was not previously within the reach of regional airports, or even many large airports. The system developed provides our Airport with the highest level of security for flight operations. “We are proud that as one of the few technology companies in the world, we can boast of an A-SMGCS system certified for operational use, which, at the same time, is within the reach of medium-sized and smaller airports,” said Marcin Bondyra, the President of AP-TECH.
