The Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport has celebrated the official cornerstone laying for the new pier expanding the T2 Passenger Terminal to the west. Earlier, the Airport owners and management as well as the representative of the contractor had signed the investment foundation act.
The foundation act states that the extension of the T2 Passenger Terminal aims at the development of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, the comfort and safety of its passengers, the development of the economy and tourism of the region and at the wellbeing and wealth of its residents.
Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport
“We have laid the cornerstone for the third stage of the terminal extension. We do not stop and we are willing to develop with even more determination. Against the epidemics and crises, we fearlessly continue to extend the infrastructure, hoping that it will serve our passengers well and facilitate the comfort and safety of their travels”.
Karol Zduńczyk, the President of DORACO Management Board
“The events of the previous months required introducing new rules regarding the work of our team. However, it has not influenced the work schedule. The cornerstone, being the symbol of stability of the structure, has an additional meaning during these times. Stability is something we all have been longing for, no matter where we live”.
Mieczysław Struk, the Marshal of Pomorskie Province
Starting a business activity in Pomorskie province is dependent on the quality of the aviation services in the Gdansk Airport. We would like to develop public transportation, not only connecting it to the airport but also to the whole regional transportation system. We have been thinking of developing the railway lines as the access to the airport, to the business centre which is being built, is of great importance”.
Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the President of Gdansk
“I am very glad that passengers will be able to travel with increased convenience. Travelling means development, learning about new cultures and bringing new ideas to Gdansk. The two on-going investments at the Airport, the extension of the passenger terminal and the construction of the first office building are also the guarantee of the development of Gdansk”.
Wojciech Szczurek, the President of Gdynia
“Poland is one of the European countries of the fastest growing index of aviation mobility. It is characteristic that the inability to fly is mentioned as one of the biggest inconveniences during the epidemic. But the epidemic will pass, and the Tricity Airport will give us access to travel by air for a long time”.
Jacek Karnowski, the President of Sopot
“The airport is for businessmen, tourists and also for the residents which may travel to different places in the world. It is a mutual investment of the local Pomeranian governments and the government of Poland. It constitutes a well-functioning conglomerate, which we were able to create together and manage it well. It is the fastest developing airport in Poland. The tourism in Sopot would not be as developed as it is now, without the extension and development of the Airport”.
Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport signed the contract for the terminal extension with DORACO Construction Corporation on 15th October 2019. The construction of the new pier, expanding the existing T2 Passenger Terminal to the west, is scheduled for the end of the 4th quarter of 2021. Gdansk Airport will gain almost 16 thousand square meters of new space. After the extension of the passenger terminal, the new pier will serve passengers of scheduled flights travelling to non-Schengen countries, and a part of the new pier will be dedicated to serve the Schengen Area passengers.
