The Management Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport decided to announce a new tender for the construction of the T2 passenger terminal pier. Previously, we have cancelled the first tender, because the offers were too expensive.
The decision to announce a new tender was taken after almost a month of technical discussion participated by four potential investment contractors. “In our dialogue with the companies, our priority was to achieve savings that will not affect the quality of the construction works. I am convinced that we have succeeded to achieve the set goals” - said Tomasz Kloskowski, the President of the Management Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport. Let’s remind that the lowest offer presented in the tender cancelled in mid-May, exceeded by almost 30% of the amount allocated for the investment. “During our dialogue with the tenderers, we explained, first of all, some of the aspects and assumptions of the contract. It turned out, for example, that the systems concerning the new part of the terminal were misinterpreted. Tenderers calculated the creation of the systems for the entire terminal, whilst, we were only interested in the equipment of the extended part of the terminal and connecting it with the existing infrastructure. Additionally, it is not necessary to use the suppliers of the existing systems only” - adds Kloskowski. The Gdansk Airport has decided to extend the time for the investment up to 26 months. “Earlier, we set up 24 months for the works, with the additional points for shortening it to 18 months. We have plenty of time to complete this project, we could also extend the construction time to 26 months. Therefore, the contractors will not have to include the contractual penalties in their service rates for exceeding the deadline” - said the President of Gdansk Airport. Four construction companies applied for the first tender for the pier in May 2019: NDI, Doraco, Hochtief and Budimex. The Airport planned to allocate PLN 177 million net for the extension of the terminal. However, the cheapest offer submitted by NDI amounted to 239 million. Other offers were higher: Hochtief estimated their services for 279 million, Doraco for 305 million and Budimex for 311 million. The offers also differed in the lead time: from 18 to 22 months. Therefore, the Board of Gdansk Airport have decided to cancel the tender and announced a new one. Due to the extension of the passenger terminal by an additional pier, Gdansk Airport will gain 16 thousand square meters of usable area. The zone of central security control and passport control, the baggage hall and the Non-Schengen zone will be extended, two bus terminals will be built. An extension of the network of internal access roads to the airport is also planned.
